What Does “Permanent” Actually Mean Here?
Most smoothing treatments coat the hair or temporarily realign it, and wash out over weeks or months. Japanese Thermal Reconditioning does something categorically different: it breaks the disulphide bonds that give your hair its curl pattern, reforms them in a straight configuration, and then locks them there. Those bonds do not revert.
So the hair on your head today will stay straight until you cut it off. What will not stay straight is the hair that grows in afterwards — that arrives in your natural texture, which is why this service comes with a touch-up rhythm rather than a re-do rhythm.

Why This Treatment Demands an Experienced Stylist
With keratin, a mediocre result fades in three months. With Japanese straightening, a mediocre result is cut off over the following year. That asymmetry is the whole argument for going to someone who has done thousands of them.
The judgement calls that matter are all made before the first section is taken: whether the hair can take it at all, what solution strength to use, how long to process, and what temperature to iron at. Get any of those wrong and the consequences are structural rather than cosmetic.

What Happens on the Day
Set aside most of a day. This is a precision service and rushing any stage is exactly how results go wrong.
1. Consultation & Strand Test
Porosity, elasticity and chemical history are assessed, and a strand test confirms how your hair will actually behave before any full application.
2. Clarifying Wash
Build-up is removed so the solution can penetrate evenly rather than sitting on residue.
3. Bond-Breaking Solution
The first solution is applied section by section to soften the disulphide bonds that hold your curl pattern.
4. Processing & Rinse
Timed carefully to hair type. Under-processing means it will not hold; over-processing is where damage happens.
5. Thermal Reconditioning
Hair is dried and ironed in fine sections at a controlled temperature. This is the step that sets the new straight configuration.
6. Neutralising
A second solution reforms the bonds in their new position and locks the result in permanently.

Regrowth and Touch-Ups
Expect to see your natural texture at the roots within a few months, and a visible line where treated hair meets new growth. How quickly that becomes obvious depends on how different your natural curl is from the treated lengths.
Touch-ups treat only the new growth, in the same way root colour does. Applying solution over already-treated hair is the single most common cause of over-processing, so it is never done routinely at Pierre Haddad — the regrowth is treated, and the lengths are left alone.
Most clients settle into a touch-up every six to nine months. Between those, a gloss or condition treatment keeps the lengths looking as good as they did on day one.
