How the Latino Keratin Treatment Works

Knowing what to expect before a keratin treatment makes all the difference. A professional Latino Keratin at Pierre Haddad is a structured, four-stage process carried out by experienced specialists in our Sydney CBD salon.

Depending on hair length and density, appointments typically take between 1.5 and 4 hours.

Step 1 — Deep Cleanse and Preparation

(15–20 minutes)

Your hair is washed with a clarifying shampoo to remove product buildup, excess oil and any residue that could interfere with absorption. This opens the cuticle and ensures the keratin formula penetrates evenly from root to tip. No conditioner is used at this stage.

Step 2 — Latino Keratin Formula Application

(20–40 minutes)

The Professional Latino Keratin formula is a formaldehyde-free smoothing complex enriched with keratin proteins. It is applied section by section through clean, towel-dried hair.

The formula is worked through each strand to fully saturate them, then left to process for 20–30 minutes. This is where frizz control and cuticle smoothing begin at a structural level.

Step 3 — Heat Sealing with a Flat Iron

(30–60 minutes depending on length)

Your stylist uses a professional flat iron to seal the keratin deep into the hair shaft. The controlled heat activates the proteins, locking them into the cortex and forming a humidity-resistant barrier around each strand. This step is what gives the treatment its lasting smoothness and mirror-like shine.

Step 4 — Blow-Dry, Finishing and Reveal

(20–30 minutes)

How to Maintain Your Keratin Treatment at Home

The right aftercare routine makes the difference between results that last 3 months and results that last 5. With over 20 years of experience administering keratin treatments in Sydney CBD, our team has refined the following guidance for every client.

Do not wash your hair for 72 hours after treatment. This is the most critical window. Water disrupts the keratin bonding process while it's still setting. Avoid rain, sweat and steam as well.
Switch permanently to a sulphate- and sodium chloride-free shampoo. Sulphates and sodium chloride are the two fastest ways to break down keratin results. Pierre Haddad's own sulphate-free shampoo range is formulated specifically for treated hair and is available online and in-salon.
Avoid salt water and chlorine for the first 3 days. Ocean swimming and pool sessions accelerate keratin breakdown. After the initial 72 hours, always rinse hair thoroughly with fresh water before and after any exposure to salt or chlorine.
Minimise heat styling. Your hair is already smooth; you won't need the flat iron as often. When you do style with heat, use a heat protectant and keep temperatures moderate. Excessive heat over time will shorten your results.
Schedule your reapplication around 3 months. As your natural hair grows out and the treated lengths gradually revert, a timely reapplication keeps your result seamless. Most clients at our Sydney CBD salon rebook every 12–16 weeks.

Bonus note for coloured hair clients:

If you've had highlights, balayage or colour before your keratin treatment, or are planning colour afterwards, let your stylist know at the time of booking.

Latino Keratin is safe for colour-treated hair and can actually enhance shine and vibrancy post-colour, but the sequence and timing of services matter.

We recommend a minimum 2-week gap between chemical colour and keratin application.
