How To Curl Your Hair Like A Pro
Mermaid waves are a summer staple, but thick, textured curls aren’t going anywhere yet. If you’re ready to switch up your summer curls, we’ve got the best tips to curl your hair like a professional. From thick natural curls to red carpet waves, take your pick from our hair curling techniques. All you need is a hair straightener or a curling iron along with a heat protectant and holding spray.Red Carpet Waves
These retro waves are a favourite on the red carpet, with celebrities like Margo Robbie opting for this classic, vintage look. The key to red carpet waves is to achieve tight curls, either with a hair straightener or curler. We recommend starting each look with 2 or 3-day old hair, as freshly washed hair won’t hold the curls as long.- Spray dry hair with a heat protectant.
- Take a one-inch section of hair and hold the straightener horizontally, wrapping the hair around the iron.
- Slowly pull the straightener downward.
- Leave the hair to cool and repeat on the next section.
- Once all the hair is curled, run your fingers gently through the hair to blend the curls into a uniform wave.
- Spritz with hairspray.
Natural Curls
Want something a little more natural? These waves are loose and tousled for that ‘just got out of bed’ look.- Spray hair with a heat protectant.
- Take a one-inch section of hair and hold the curling wand vertically. Then wrap the hair around the barrel, away from the face.
- Repeat step 2 but in the opposite direction, toward the face.
- Either brush or run fingers through the hair to loosen the curls.
- Spritz with hairspray.
S Waves
If you’re still obsessed with beachy waves, the S wave technique is made for you. Just as the name suggests, the S wave creates an S shape from root to end for beautiful, beachy lengths.- Spray hair with a heat protectant.
- Take a one-inch section of hair and push into an S shape with fingers.
- Take the straightener and tap over the hair, continuing the S shape down to the ends.
- Repeat step 3 with the S shape pushed in the opposite direction.
- Continue until all the hair is waved, then gently separate with your fingers.
- Spritz with hairspray.
Kinky Waves
This look is similar to the S wave, but instead of tapping the hair into place, the straightener will pull the hair into shape creating inward and outward waves.- Spray with a heat protectant.
- Take a one-inch section of hair and place the straighter horizontally on the hair.
- Pull the straightener outward and down in a C shape, then repeat in the opposite direction down the length of the hair.
- Repeat step 3 until all the hair is ironed.
- Spritz with hairspray.
